You might think you don’t walk much, but you’d be surprised. Did you know that the average person walks the equivalent of three times around the world in their lifetime? That’s right, three times! That’s a lot of steps, and a lot of miles.

How Many Steps Do You Take a Day?

According to a study of 2.000 adults, the average person walks 6.839 steps a day, which adds up to 2.496.235 steps a year. That’s about 1.182,00 miles a year (1.902,24 km), or 74.462,00 miles (119.834,97 km) over an average lifetime. To put that in perspective, the circumference of the Earth at the Equator is about 24.901,00 miles (40.074,27 km). So you could walk around the Earth three times and still have some miles left over.

Why Do You Walk So Much?

You might not realize how much you walk because you do it for different reasons. Some people walk for exercise, some for leisure, some for transportation, and some just for fun. The study found that the top reasons to go for a stroll were getting fresh air (58%), getting outside (54%), and clearing your head (33%). Other reasons included enjoying nature, exploring new places, and spending time with friends or family.

Where Do You Like to Walk?

The study also revealed that the most popular places to walk were by the beach (21%), in a forest (18%), and in a park (16%). But some people also liked to walk in more urban settings, such as in a city (12%) or on a street (11%). And some adventurous souls even went on walking holidays or visited national parks just for the sake of walking.

How Can You it More?

Walking is not only good for your health, but also for your mood and your mind. It can help you relax, reduce stress, improve your memory, and boost your creativity. Plus, it’s free and easy to do. If you want to walk more, here are some tips:
