The Early Arrival of Amy
The twins’ mother, Maria Jones-Elliott, was pregnant with fraternal twins in 2012. She was expecting to give birth in September, but on June 1, she went into labor at only 23 weeks. She had only a 10% chance of survival.
The Delayed Birth of Katie
But Maria’s labor stopped after Amy was born. The doctors decided to keep the second twin, Katie, inside the womb for as long as possible, to give her a better chance of development.
